AISLINN MCKENNA of AIS PORTRAITS DARES YOU:
I dare the listeners to give themselves grace. Give yourself permission to go after your big goals, but also to give yourself the space to know that you’re human. Which means that you might not reach the large goal, but as long as you’re going towards the intention and the feeling of that goal, that that is enough.
FAST FACTS ABOUT AISLINN MCKENNA OF AIS PORTRAITS
What do you shoot with?
I have a Pentax 645, with a boutique lens that has stuck at F2. And then I shoot with the Canon 5D Mark IV for digital.
What’s your favorite post-wedding or event snack?
It depends on what’s open, but we have this thing called Jacks, a fast food restaurant, but they have the best chocolate milkshakes.
If they’re open and they’re open till like 10:00 PM we’ll do that. Or during the reception, I’ll make William go get me like a Chick-fil-A milkshake or Jack’s milkshake just depending on where we are.
What’s your favorite wedding/creative pump up jam?
I have a 5k playlist that is mostly My Chemical Romance and Panic at the Disco. And then a couple of Jason Derulo songs on there. So that’s very 2007-2008.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?
I think you guys already probably guessed this, but I am definitely a fitness junkie. I kinda got into that a couple years ago and started running 5Ks and doing heavy lifting. It’s my goal to get back up to weightlifting what I was doing two years ago, which was at the time 165 pounds for squats.
What is one daring the leap you’ve taken in your business?
I’d say getting into film. I told you that I apprenticed under two photographers. So it was definitely like a beginner stage of my business. And so I waited until I was really comfortable with all of the different tools that I felt I needed. Without films. I learned studio lighting. I learned my digital set up really, really well.
I learned posing and how to make people feel cared for. And I learned to like the more process side of things and the business side of things. And so for me, adding film in was very daring because it was something that I had longed for, for so long. So afraid that it just wasn’t going to live up to the expectations that I had of it. And it did because it always does.
What is one thing you feel like you’re really great at in your business?
I feel like I am really great at making people feel seen and heard. I hear over and over again that talking to me is like therapy. I love listening to other people’s stories and I love listening to their why.

Do you have any special announcements/offers for our listeners?
We are going to be hosting our first mini mastermind in February of 2021. It’ll be the first of many I’m sure. So that might not be for you right now. You might be listening to this and then like April, which is great. But later on in the year, we’ll probably host more masterminds.
We are also launching a Daily Affirmations Workbook about how to work that into your routine. It also will cover when you find yourself in a disappointing situation because when you find yourself in a disappointing situation, it’s really hard to pull yourself out of that loop. And so I want to get people the space to figure out what do I need to hear from myself to make this?
