Get serious about understanding the actual numbers behind your business. Instead of using words like “most”, or “I think some”, or “almost all of my clients I think”. you should really dig in and figure out how many is most, how many is some, and then really recognize that there’s a lot of opportunity when you can understand the numbers in your business to make some positive changes.

FAST FACTS ABOUT LAURA MURRAY

What do you shoot with?

I shoot both film and digital and the shoot that the camera that I use for. I use the Canon 5D Mark IV. I’ve also recently gotten the Fuji GFX camera. So that one I’ve been testing out of and putting my context, Zeiss lens on that camera.

What’s your favorite tool in business?

Google Sheets

What’s your favorite post-wedding or event snack?

if you’re talking pre-wedding, I am super healthy with what I eat. I love eating a big salad, like tons of greens with some protein and healthy fats. I feel like that just makes me feel good before a wedding, but on the wedding day, I will pack granola bars and, I love nut butters. So I pack those little nut butter packs.

What’s your favorite wedding/creative pump up jam?

I don’t have one specific pump-up jam. I actually have a Spotify playlist that’s called “workout” because it was supposed to be for working out. I really love hip hop and rap music too.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?

My number one favorite thing to do is spend time with my family just to get a hangout with my boys and my husband.

My  favorite thing personally that I do right now is we’re remodeling this house. So I have loved going through inspiration and finding light fixtures and brainstorming, where I want to put the window placement. Like this house is a total, like top to bottom, full gut.

It was a bank owned. And nobody has cared for this house in essentially 10 years, but no one’s lived in it for about two years. So it has needed a lot of love and it’s just been so much fun to restore it.

What is one daring the leap you’ve taken in your business?

One daring leap is starting Spark and Bound, which is a sub-business. It’s a passion project,  Spark and Bound is a set of goal planners that they made for creatives to help them go after their wild and extraordinary goals.

And the reason why I did that is when I had my twins, especially I felt like I did not have enough time in the day for everything I wanted to do. And I felt like there was a decision that I had to make. Was I going to continue doing photography or was I going to not continue doing photography?

Could I balance all of the things in my life that I had going on? And I realized that I needed a system to write down what was important, and this is how.
