We’re hopping on Dare to Develop today to talk about a subject that is truly important. We first and foremost believe black lives matter. And we really want to show our support for black creatives in our creative community and our wedding industry. We are committed to learning unlearning behaviors, listening and doing better.
We want to create an inclusive environment in the podcasts sphere and within our own realms of influence and businesses. We are so honored to have a candid conversation today with Sacia of Sacia Matthew’s photography. She is a black photographer based in Charleston who has amazing work and has been so willing and open these past few weeks on helping our wedding industry community learn.
So much about injustice, inequality and the lack of inclusion in the wedding industry. We hope this is just the beginning of a much needed conversation about diversity and inclusion in our industry. So there’s a lot to learn. So let’s dive in.
SACIA DARES YOU
There are two things I want to dare. I want you to make a genuine connection with a black or diverse-owned business in your area, whether you go support the coffee shop or whether you invite somebody or get on the phone with them, or just tell them that you’re impressing or they’re doing a good job.
And the other thing I want to dare you to keep having conversations, keep being vocal on your social media accounts. Not that the work is really done on social media, but you don’t know whose heart you may touch or what may shake somebody’s thinking up. And we just need to keep having these conversations.

What do you shoot with?
I shoot with Canon.
What’s your favorite post-wedding or event snack?
There is nothing better to me than going to McDonald’s and getting a large fry and large coke.
What’s your favorite wedding/creative pump up jam?
I like to ride in silence and run through the day, run through my equipment and just be in my head a little bit.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?
Travel! Instead of being the girl that has like all the social media pulled up all day, I’m planning vacations. I literally have so many vacations planned and whenever I get distracted from editing nine times out of 10, I have a travel site pulled up.
What is one daring the leap you’ve taken in your business?
Jumping into this industry was definitely the most daring thing.
What is one thing you feel like you’re really great at in your business?
I love the connection piece. Like with my clients, with the creative teams I work with, that’s kinda my thing. I like to nourish those relationships and really grow them and, and shout them out whenever I can and so I love the connection. I think I’m good at that.

I’m offering online and in-person coaching sessions. I have shoots where you can join us on a shoot and we’ll shoot together. And then I’ll walk you through my own editing process. I’m just trying to help you build your business with good bones. And so due to that, I am going to offer a complimentary 30 minute introductory session, where we dive into what your pain points are.
