ABBY JIU DARES YOU
I want you to think about your business as you being the CEO. Also if there are things that you can outsource, do it. You should only be doing things that other people can’t do. Find things that even though you can do it, it takes up so much of your time or you don’t like it, outsource it because let’s hope we’re all really busy in 2021. We don’t want to get bogged down with things that we don’t like, and we want to grow our business.
FAST FACTS ABOUT ABBY JIU
What do you shoot with?
I shoot with this Sony A7III, and then the Contax 645
What’s your favorite post-wedding or event snack?
I would probably just eat popcorn, but I would say pre-wedding, I love just going to Starbucks before the wedding and getting that for the assistants or, some of the wedding team and drinking that on the way to the wedding.
What’s your favorite wedding/creative pump up jam?
If it is a local wedding we always ride together. Usually, we’re just talking. I have the timeline printed out and we’re talking about “don’t say this” or “their parents were divorced” and things like that.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?
I really miss travel. I did one wedding outside of DC last year. It was in Kiawah Island, right outside of Charleston. And I remember we arrived there a day early and then went to get coffee the next day.
So it was outside of Charleston and I was like “Oh my God, I’m so happy. I’m not in DC anymore, this is great!” So it just really makes you realize like, yes, I love home, but I do really traveling.
What is one daring leap you’ve taken in your business?
So I think that it was bringing on Lisa, my first associate. It was a big leap to put her on the website and Instagram and give her all of this responsibility. And I do remember being nervous about it, but it’s been amazing. She’s been with me over six years now and now we have mag too. So it’s been the best decision.
What is one thing you feel like you’re really great at in your business?
I think we’ve done a really good job of figuring out outsourcing. And I think that hopefully, we’re getting back to weddings soon in 2021, we’ll hit a point where we are so busy because I’m sure we have a lot on the books that we’re trying to fulfill. As a single business owner, you feel like you need to have everything and you do need to do everything or you don’t want to.
Splurge on outsourcing, but there is a point where if you don’t, then you really can’t grow that much. And I think that’s especially going to be true in 2021. So really figuring out how you can outsource and how you can make your life easier too, with that.
