Today we’re talking with Stephen Wood of PhotoVision Prints. A photo lab that has become a national name throughout the film world. We’ll hear Steven talk about his early years in the film lab and how that’s shaped the business he’s made now. Stephen also shares invaluable tips for us as photographers and how we can develop relationships with our respective photo labs.

I dare you to experiment and really stop down. In fact, if you’re shooting medium format, shoot something at F8 and see what it looks like.

What do you shoot with? What is your favorite tool in biz?
As far as camera gear, I just shoot with a variety of things. A Nikon N 2002, it’s about $40, a 35mm camera body. I shoot a Pentax 645, Pentax 67 and a Veronica ETR SI. I’m not afraid of old cameras. and then on the digital side, I shoot a Nikon D3 and a fuji finepix s5 pro and underwater housing.

What’s your favorite post-wedding or event snack?
Before I get started at work, it’s always coffee and after work. If I could sleep afterwards, it would still be coffee.
What’s your favorite wedding/creative pump up jam?
Radiohead “In Rainbows”.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?
Hiking. If not hiking, scuba diving is right up there with favorite things to do, but that usually takes a bit more time. So in the Pacific Northwest, we’ve got lots of hiking to do everywhere.
What is one daring the leap you’ve taken in your business?
Learning to program and learning electronics so that I could actually build our film scanners.
What is one thing you feel like you’re really great at in your business?
Accepting change and learning how to lean into it and move with it rather than fight it.
