029: Developing a Successful Destination Wedding Business with LAUREN FAIR

September 8, 2020

Today we’re welcoming Lauren of Lauren Fair Photography, and she’s going to dive into how she created a destination wedding business. Lauren Fair is a successful destination photographer whose work has graced the pages of Cosmopolitan, Martha Stewart, Brides and more. We really love Lauren’s focus on staying humble always and creating community wherever she goes.

You’ll get so many tips that you can start using right away to get those destination weddings, as well as developing relationships with vendors all over the world.

LAUREN FAIR DARES YOU:

I would dare you to reach out to three people whose work you really admire. Wedding planners, florists, or designers who you just would love to work with and just reach out to them.

Offer to work together and see what you can do, to create something of value with them, because the fear of rejection can hold us back, but you never know what type of beautiful relationship will come from just reaching out and saying hello and starting that conversation.

FAST FACTS ABOUT LAUREN FAIR

What do you shoot with?

I shoot primarily with a CONTAX 645 and an 80mm lens. And then on the digital side, I shoot with a Canon Mark IV and a 50mm.

What’s your favorite post-wedding or event snack?

A mint milkshake from Wawa. If you’re from the Northeast, you know what Wawa is.

What’s your favorite wedding/creative pump up jam?

I really love EDM (little known fact) and I love dance music and I love to dance.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?

I love to plan trips, book flights, and research incredible places to host future workshops. I would have been a travel agent in another life. I genuinely love the research aspect of just putting together the most incredible itineraries.

I also love interior design. I love home decor design. Figuring out the perfect tile, the perfect lamp, things like that are really, really fun.

What is one daring the leap you’ve taken in your business?

In 2011, Tim sold his business and joined me full time. We just jumped straight into running our business. We got married and we had zero other income sources. And we just took the leap.

We took out ads on WeddingWire and TheKnot and all of those things we all did back then in 2010, 2011. We booked 35 weddings.

What is one thing you feel like you’re really great at in your business?

I am great at vision. I know exactly where I want to go. Getting there as a different thing, but I feel like I always have a very clear vision, and I’m very relational. Those two things I think have served me really well.
