Today we’re joined by Shean Strong of Shean Strong Floral and Event Design. We absolutely love Shean’s message of knowing what your time is worth and charging for it.
Listen in as we tackle the sticky subject of “friends and family rates” and passing on possible influencer deals for “exposure”. Get your notebooks out friends, you’ll want to take notes for this one!

FAST FACTS ABOUT SHEAN
What is your favorite tool in biz?
I love Google sheets, Google docs, and Google slides.
What’s your favorite post-wedding snack?
I typically will pay for my team’s dinner or lunch between setup and takedown, so we’ll usually go to a Mexican restaurant and I am just killing some chips and salsa. I’m attacking the guacamole. That’s literally what we like to do and put our feet up and just have a great time and talk about the wedding and you know what our next steps are. But definitely Mexican.
What’s your favorite wedding/creative pump up jam?
“Don’t Stop Believing”. I know people hate that song because it’s been a hundred thousand times at a wedding. I’m very proud to say that I can hit every single note on that song.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?
My girlfriend and I love playing with my dog. We like to go hiking and he loves water. So I love being able to just to be around him as he’s chasing fish in the stream and splashing like a crazy person.
What is one daring the leap you’ve taken in your business?
Starting my business. I know that might sound cliche here or whatever, and I hate even saying it sounds cliche.
I had no experience in floral design and I just kind of took a risk and jumped into this. There were some times where I was even eating ramen noodles for three months in a row trying to get these clients together. But, you know, thankfully it all paid off.
What is one thing you feel like you’re really great at in your business?
I really do a great job at connecting with my clients. I think that they really do trust me and they trust the vision that I’ve shared with them. People want to work with me because I’m transparent with what I do. I let them know if I don’t like something or if I Do. I’ve just built really good relationships with those people and a lot of my brides, we’re still friends.
Where can our listeners find you?
Do you have any announcements for our guests?
I sincerely do get a lot of messages on “how would you price this?” “How would you handle this?”
And so I want to be able to address those problems. So in the works right now I’m working an online course and then the first of the year looking to have another workshop. We’ll discuss pricing, business models, how we’re dealing with social media.
Then we also build a massive installation together and bouquets and centerpieces. So, that’s going to be coming up, but all that information can be found on my Instagram and on my website.
